Is six minutes a week of this enough?

Can it be true that Australian men spend more time during the week brushing their teeth than they do alone with their children?

A new study from the University of New South Wales has discovered that during the working week, Aussie fathers only spend an average of just over a minute each day alone with their children.

Australian mothers, on the other hand, spend three hours a week purely looking after their children – a much greater disparity than in other countries like America, Denmark, Italy and France, where couples divide the child-care more evenly.

These findings will infuriate those who want to shake off the perhaps unfair image of Australia as a land of old-fashioned male chauvinism.

According to the author of the study, Australian fathers appear to like the fun aspects of parenthood, but shy away from the drudgery. So while they tend to be happy taking the kids to the park or to sports events, they are unlikely to participate regularly in feeding, bathing, or taking the kids to school.

In short, Australian parenting is seen as a woman's job and a man's hobby.

Many people believe that the last twenty years have seen the arrival of the so-called ‘new man’ – the man who is willing to share the housework and child-care and is not afraid to demonstrate his sensitive side either.

The new man has a picture of his children on his computer desktop at work; he never misses the kids’ school plays and he passes on a drink after work so that he can get home in time to read their bedtime story.

This new study suggests that the new man feels a little more at home in Europe than in Australia.

Indeed, a poll conducted in the UK for the think-tank the Fatherhood Institute in January indicated that almost 70% of British women thought that men were as good at raising children as women.

That’s something for Aussie men to ponder while they brush their teeth!

Which film would you like to see on the spookiest day of the year?

What's Keeping You up at Night?

Well, it's that time of the year again; witches, ghosts, wizards and skeletons are supposed to come out in full force. Yes, Halloween – 31st October, the spookiest day of the year is almost here.

There are so many things we can do to enjoy this supernatural day - sweets, fancy dress and of course watching scary films.

It's the perfect time for family and friends to watch horror films on the TV in the dark and maybe seek refuge behind the sofa!

We're spoilt for choice; there are literally thousands of films to choose from. One of the most famous is 1970s release Carrie which may fit the bill perfectly. It's a tale of a girl being bullied at school by young women who live to regret it.

If it's goriness you want, then The Night of the Living Dead and Evil Dead will provide more zombie slaying and blood splattering than one person can possibly manage.

For Hitchcock fans out there, Halloween is the perfect time to watch two of his best-known movies from the 1960s, Psycho and The Birds. Both have aged incredibly well and still can keep the viewers on the edge of their seats with their spine-chilling effects.

However, not everyone wants to be frightened on Halloween night. Monsters Inc. is an animation film, set in a land where monsters exist and the quirky characters are sure to bring a smile to the little ones in the family.

Meanwhile, if you want to stay up all night, film series such as The Saw, Nightmare on Elm Street and maybe Harry Potter are sure to keep you glued to the box for hours.

So turn off the lights, sit back and enjoy the movies that you have chosen, whether it is revolting, nauseating or spooky.

    But remember, don't have nightmares!

走到半路,其中一个美国女孩问,“Where is the bathroom?”

我忙告诉她,“Sorry,our bathroom is closed。 一路说笑到了宿舍,女孩又问,“where is your bathroom?”

这个刚到美国不久的女孩回答,“Yes,but I am on holiday now。 事后,她告诉我们,“Are you working?”

A Damaged Man Has the Last Word on Diana

[1]He was the silent of the storm that erupted after the violent death of Diana, Princess of Wales. The only survivor of the horrific crash in Paris, Trevor Rees-Jones would surely answer all the puzzling questions about that night in 1997. But apart from one tabloid interview that he instantly regretted, the 31-year-old bodyguard remained as enigmatic as the last fateful seconds locked irretrievably inside his head.

[2] The former paratrooper had suffered serious chest and head injuries, his face so badly disfigured that it was sewn back together after more than 20 metal splinters were removed. What hurt more, it seems, were the accusations about his role and the wild conspiracy theories made by his former employer, Mohamed al-Fayed, father of the deceased Dodi.

[3] Rees-Jones has now decided to break his silence by writing a book, The bodyguard's Story, which gives his unalloyed account of the events leading up to the final "shambles". It describes the bizarre Fayed menage. Crates of bottled water were taken to the family villa in St Tropez--the equivalent of coals to Newcastle. Fayed's private Gulfstream jet transported five sacks of sand to Finland to make a beach for the Fayed children, only to be swept away.

[4] Although adamant that he is not cashing in on Diana's death, Rees-Jones is submitting to a media hoopla because he is hard up. Denied compensation in France, facing legal bills and without long-term provision after his acrimonious parting from Fayed, the money has provided him with a two-bedroom house in Oswestry in Shropshire and some security.

[5] It has bought him no peace of mind. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, he confesses he is plagued by the thought that Diana, Dodi and driver Henri Paul died _on my shift_ and that he would gladly have sacrificed his own life to save theirs. "If I could have died and those three survived, I could have done it,"_he says.

[6] Rees-Jones was one of 40 security men_ 16-stone nannies hired to guard the Fayed family and pander to their whims. A former squaddie with the Parachute Regiment in Northern Ireland, he was a useful rugby player whose tough looks and 6ft 2in frame belied a mild and stoical nature.
