Nancy was cooking when her phone rang. Exactly speaking, she was boiling some water for instant noodles. She picked up her phone and answered " Hello!", heared very happy from her voice. " Hello! Happy birthday! What are you doing?"

It's Bryan, Nancy's best friend. To Nancy , he is special. They knew each other since Middle School. They didn't meet everyday, but they kept in touch all along. He is a friend, a brother or a family member to her. She told him everything happened to and surrounded her, including recent health condition, a teacher who teaches well, quarrel among roommates, affection troubles , etc. Bryan also told her those details, but never about affection. Bryan ever told her, Nancy remembered, he maight not keep in touch with her if she met a boyfriend. He said he is that kind of person.

"Hey, Nancy, are you with me?"

"Oh, yeah, I'm listening. Thank you for calling. I'm boiling instant noodles. I pretend it's my birthday noodles. How are you doing these days? Guang Zhou must be better than Wuhan. So you won't be back, will you ?"

"Well, missy, I just went there take my holiday. I'm not working there. And I didn't graduate yet. I'm back. Don't eat instant noodles. Let's eat out. My treat. I'm standing before the gate of your school. Come out , quick!"

Nancy pulled out the plug of rice cooker and rushed out.

They had ever reached a agreement: Never give birthday gifts. They thought it's a waste of money. On each birthday they just eat out together. She thought she must have to celebrate her birthday alone this year. It was really a surprise he could be back.

After lunch, they sat on the stone chair in the campus. They chose the same set of desk and chairs each time. After seating themselves together, Bryan smiled , " 20 years old, you are a big girl now."

"Crazy is the right of young people. Just for fun. But I promise you, I will try my best to make you happy.Your burdens I will bear; my happiness you can share. We can have a try. Just three months. If you fall in love with another guy within this perioud, you can leave. And if you don't , we go through this three months, then break up happily. How do you think?" He offered this proposal.

Then Nancy and Bryan became girlfriend and boyfriend. They went out together each weekend. They went shopping, went skating and enjoyed happy times together like other lovers.

Bryan rent a house out of his campus. It's a little small , but had a kichen and bathroom. Each weekend they went to Wal-Mart, bought some vegetables,fishes, eggs, etc. and went home for cooking. Nancy washed vegetables , while Bryan did the cutting job. Then they cooked by turn. Those times were so sweet!

Time flies! Three monthes were over. That weekend they cooked lots of dishes. Sitting by the table , they lowered their eyes and ate slowly. The air was full of pressure. Nancy broke the silence, " Three monthes are over. It's time to break up. I'm very happy during this perioud. Thank you. We are still friends. I believe you will find a better girl soon."

It was very difficult to say these words with a smiling face.Nancy thought it maight look better if she cry than smile.But she couldn't cry. They had said they would break up happily.

Bryan looked into her eyes and told her, " I didn't tell you, I ever had a girlfriend. She is excellent. She is not like you in many ways. She is very kind, she always gives money and food to beggars, but you seldom do; She is industrious, she often washes my dirty clothes, shoes,sheet when I'm not in, but you never; She is prim all along, but you are crazy sometimes; She is plump , but you are thin. I know she is better than you. That's the truth. But her kindness makes me depressed. We have spent three months together.Think about the times we have been through. There is happiness you can not deny. Why can't we keep going on?"

His sound around her ears brought tears to her eyes. She cried to him, "I'm afraid if we walk on, we can't even be friends at last. I really don't want to lose such a friend like you.

" But do you think we can still keep the friendship like before. Besides friendship , there is something else between us. You know it, I believe. OK, listen to me. We spare another three-month like now. Stay with me for another three-month. After three monthes, if you feel happy, we keep on. If you still decide to go back, we go back together. You will still be my best friend."
