    Downpour

It’s been drizzling outside for days since Mark was in a cold war with Meow, making him even more upset and annoyed in the day, so he decided to go out for a drink alone, thinking that maybe in a bar he would find the one sitting next an old friend that has been apart for years. He is such a person, full of imagination, even in his bad time.

In the rain were walking lots of people with umbrella in hands, most of them in couples. As the umbrellas move, the street was like a river on which were floating multicolor mushrooms. The sound of splash blended in the moaning of the passing cars, making a melody of city life.

Fresh air, I need fresh air!! Mark breathed heavily and felt like walking in the air. He never felt this way, like a bird set free after ages in a cage.

It does no harm to wallow sometimes.

After minutes’ walking, he stopped by a bar on the corner, out of which parked a Mini cooper which had been his dream car for years. He was a big fan of MINI.

In there was sitting only a man in the dim light of the bar.

“Nice car, man.” Mark walked over to the man, and sat down.

The man turned to Mark, eyes on him, after a pause he said: “you are Mark, right?”

“You know me? But I don’t think we have met before? Wait…” Mark tried hard to place his face.

“Two years ago, you fixed me up with Annie, remember her?”

“So sorry, but it doesn’t ring a bell…”Mark looked right at him, his nostrils getting big and his eyes opening wide, “Oh my god, lawyer Annie Reed, right? You are so lucky, man.”

    “Call me Eric”

“OK, Eric, so how are you doing with Annie? It’s been a long time…” It’s getting a little weird in the air, when Mark questioned.

“She is gone, in a car accident…last year,” Eric guzzled down a mug of beer and said.

“Oh my god, oh my god… it can’t be!!” Mark couldn’t believe his ears.

“You want a beer?” Eric asked Mark, and then called the barman ““Two beers”.

     “How could it happen?”

“It was the Mini outside. She said he loved Mini cooper, so I bought her one, I also bought her whatever she asked for…I promised her to have dinner that night, and kissed her goodbye in the morning, but I never thought it was a kiss goodbye for good, on her way back from the supermarket, she just… it’s really tough, I should have been with her that day…it couldn’t have happened if I drove her there, or maybe took a bus…”

“Come on, Eric, not your fault”

“No, it was”, with tears sparkling in eyes, Eric continued, “on hearing the nightmare I fell to pieces, then I wallowed in alcohol for months, every morning it’s so horrible to wake up without her by my side, I was going nuts… she is gone, and never came back…” Eric couldn’t help sobbing, speaking of this, “I promised her a dinner together.”

Deep sorrow and sympathy well up in Mark’s heart, with them came a overwhelming fear, the fear of losing Meow, the fear to wake up to find Meow gone some morning…

Eric continued, “She used to complain I was a crap that couldn’t give her a big house, a nice car…a diamond ring. But now I can, you see, I have a MINI, she loves MINI, damn MINI”

Eric’s voice was moaning at his ears, so pale, and never ending…

“Thanks for the beers, I gotta go.” Mark stood up and headed for the gate.

    “You need a ride?”

“No, I don’t need a car. Damn MINI”

It’s pouring outside, just like Eric pouring the beer. Minds will clear up like the sky after a downpour. At that moment Mark couldn’t wait to see Meow, and ask her, “what about dinner tonight?”

Meow is a HK pretty girl with fair skin and black hair, beautiful eyes and breath-taking smiles, a high paid job as well, which causes lots of green eyes around her.

But she is suffering from a relationship with a playboy, who suddenly appeared again on Valentine’s Day after three months out of touch, saying “I just came back from the Sahara, and can’t wait to see you.” Again, the girl took his words, and got onto his motorcycle.

They rode the wind of the night, and had a very good time. Then, she slept with him.

The next day, stopping on the street, the man said, “Get off my bike”

“Are you dumping me? No, I can’t!” said the girl.

“Get off my bike, I am not saying that again.” Persisted the man. But the girl seemed not moving at all.

Then, the man gave a hard twirl on the accelerator, as the bike jetted on, the girl fell down on the ground. So the man is gone, leaving her weeping sadly.

But then another man showed up, to begin a new story for her.

The man was out of the parking lot and about to leave when he saw the girl falling hard off the bike, he ran over too see if the girl hurt.

He is called Mark, running a dating service, so he is a Mr. Match, too. He asked, “Are you all right? He is a jerk” and gave her a handkerchief to stop her tears.

As Meow raised her head, she found him the cute boy who bumped into her on the street and said sorry time and time again a day before. He is a little short, the kind of boy whom will not be associated with the prince at first sight.

“I am Mark, this is my name card, when you need help, just call me.”

    “Call my Meow.”

    So the story goes.

The next day, Meow went to the dating agency, to thank Mark, or sth else she didn’t know for sure.

When she showed up, it took Mark 3 seconds to figure out she was the girl. “Oh, god, you are so gorgeous today!”

Meow gave a smile and “thank you” in reply. She seemed to be happy today.

“Ok, get over him, you know there are so many good men in the world…..just fill this form here, I promise you a perfect man…” Mark said.

Meow kept smiling. She is happy with the “perfect man” she is expecting?

Then Mark continued, “but please promise me, take good care….” After a pregnant pause, “If you need me, I will always be there.”

That day, they had dinner together, and then at night the man drove her home. The following days, the man went to see her often, with flowers, helped fix her broken chair and leaping taps, which made her touched pretty much.

“He ever promised to do this for me... but he never kept his words…actually, you don’t have to…” said Meow.

Then Mark interrupted her, “no, I promise to find you a perfect man…before you find him, you gotta be happy!!”

Meow felt a warm flow though her whole body. She’s never been that sweet in her heart.

A week later, Meow was asked to have a talk in Mark’s office. There she was given a brochure with hundreds of candidate men in it. She turned the book in haste, and none of them have the charm to catch her eyes, but the one on the last page---a short man, the kind of boy whom will not be associated with the prince at first sight.

Mark flushed a little bit, and said, “well…I think…. it’s a waste to have a blank page in this book, so…”

“You like me, don’t you??” Meow looked into his eyes.

    Silence fell.

Seconds later, Mark continued, “yes, but I know you can’t be falling in love with…”

Without letting him finished his words, Meow raised her head and sealed his mouth with her lips…

    ……

6 months later, they got married.

“I quit my job to be a full-time housewife, just to make him a more comfortable home. I learn to cook, learn how to save money. But I still feel like the happiest woman in the world.”

    ---Meow

“To make her live a happier life, I work harder and harder, even work overtime. See, I am going to pay off the mortgage loan next year.”                                                                     ---Mark

“Mark seems to be busy all the time, he can’t even squeeze some time to eat out with me.”

                                                                                                                        ---Meow

“ring ring……” the phone rang. Meow rushed to and took up the phone. At the other end came the voice, “dear, I have to meet a client tonight and it will be 3 hours later when I get home.”

“3 hours, how to kill that 3 hours??” meow thought to herself.

So Meow went to the shoeshop again, though she had had lots of new shoes already. Making it a pet peave, whenever she felt lonely, she would go there, but window shopping sometimes.

3 hours later, when Meow opened the door, only to find Mark at the door with a gift in his hands, “Surprise!!!”

“oh, I love you, what’s that?”

    “open it”

    “oops, shoes”

“I know you like shoes, or why do you have so many new shoes in the closest, you see how thoughtful I am.”

Rather than smiling like a flower, Meow pulled a long face. “You know why I bought so many shoes?”

“I know, you want to look better, and bring glory to me, right?” said mark.

“No, it’s nothing like that!!! I don’t buy those shoes because I love them, you don’t know me!!”

“What’s wrong with you? Why are you always not happy with whatever I do? I work so hard for what? ”

“Oh, look at this house, I have spent all my life on it…I clean the floor, flush the toilet, and cook for you!!! How can you say this to me?”

“Okay, it’s all my fault, Okay??” Hardly had Mark finished the words when he went out and slammed the door.

So the man is gone, leaving only her weeping sadly, again.
