  It’s dirt cheap.

  此外,A dime a dozen也是“很便宜”的意思。

Apples used to be very expensive in Taiwan, but now a days they are a dim e adozen.

  Ph.D.’s are a dime a dozen.

  Dialogue One

A:Do you have any plans for this weekend?

B:I think I’ll take my wife to LasVegas. Hotel rooms are dirt cheap in sin city these days.

  A:Really?

B:Yeah. Look at this ad. Only $30 for a double room. The price includes show tickets and buffet breakfast for two!

A:Wow,that cheap? Why don’t we go together?

  Dialogue Two

A:What kind of man would you like to marry?

  B:Lawyers are a dime a dozen. I’d rather marry a doctor.

  A:Ph.D.’s are a dime a dozen,too. Aren’t they?

  B:I meant a medical doctor.

  A:Oh,Isee.

  表示便宜的还可以说:It’s a steal. This was really a steal. You mean you really stole them?(这真是你偷来的吗?)。 No,I didn’t. I just said it was a real goodbuy.(不是啦,我没有偷。

She’s showing off her cheap earrings.

  A:That’s a very pretty dress.

B:Thank you. It was a steal.

  A:How much did you pay?

  B:Only twenty-five dollars.

A:That’s a goodbuy. Where did you buy it?

B:At Robinson’s. It was on sale.

  ★It’s dirt cheap.|

  ★They are a dime a dozen.

  ★Ph.D.’s a dime a dozen.

  ★It’s a steal.

  ★It was a real goodbuy.

  He has a good background.

He has a good background.

He pulled strings to get apromotion.或者说He used his connections to get apromotions.

另外,“他有关系”的美语是He has good connections.或He has strings to pull.表示“我没有关系”则说I have no connections.或I have no strings to pull.

  Dialogue One

A:Did you know that Jim got promoted to department chief?

B:No. Is that true?I wonder how a dim wit like him got apromotion. He must have pulled some strings or something.

A:You guessed it. He has good connections in management.

  Dialogue Two

A:I hear there’s an opening in your office. Is that right?

  B:Yes.

A:I’m going to apply for the job. Would you put in a word for me,please?

  B:OK.

  ★He has a good background.

★Would you put in a word for me?

★He pulled strings to get a promotion,

★He used his connections to get a promotion.

  ★He has good connections.

  ★He has strings to pull.
