Horror gripped the heart of the world war 1 soldier as he saw his lifelong friend fall in the battle. Caught in a trench with continuous gunfire whizzing over his head, the soldier asked his lieutenant if he might go out into the “No, Man’s Land” between the trenches to bring his fallen comrade back.

“You can go,” said the lieutenant, “but I don’t think it will be worth it. Your friend is probably dead and you may throw your own life away.” The lieutenant’s words didn’t matter, and the soldier went anyway.

Miraculously he managed to reach his friend, hoisted him onto his shoulder, and brought him back to their company’s trench. As the two of them tumbled in together to the bottom of the trench, the officer checked the wounded soldier, looked kindly at his friend. “I told you it wouldn’t be worth it,” he said. “Your friend is dead, and you are mortally wounded.”

“It was worth it, though, sir,” the soldier said.

“How do you mean, ‘worth it’?” responded the lieutenant. “Your friend is dead!”

“Yes sir,” the private answered. “But it was worth it because when I got to him, he was still alive, and I had the satisfaction of hearing him say, ‘Jim, I knew you’d come.’”

Many a time in life, whether is a thing worth doing or not really depends on how you look at it.

Take up all your courage and do something your heart tells you to do so that you may not regret not doing it later in life.

I like pop-star, especially when I was in middle school. I regarded them as my idol. But as the time going and personal growth, this adoration is gradually fading away. I will think more deeply now.

 

All pop stars have respective styles and one or some of them may exactly suit our tastes. In this case, we fall into adoration with the particular ones. They are attractive and charming in our eyes. But I have to say that we shouldn’t limit our sense on the surface. Most of the pop stars are glamorous and brilliant at least on the surface, because there is a company, a group of professional people behind them to consider, design, and beautify their face and action.

 

Though the stars’ personal temperament and quality have the final say, we shouldn’t ignore the external adornment and trick. Many stars are sublime and brilliant in public. But who know their behavīor and performance in private life? Maybe it has touched personal privacy, but it’s their daily life and behavīor which show exactly what kind of person they are!

 

Sometimes, I may be attracted by a song or a pose of a star. Then I would be interested in him or her and eager to know more about the person. But if I find he or she is vulgar or quite different from what I expected, his or her splendid image will fade away, so as their best work.

 

In short, I put more value on inner quality rather than surface performance. Only sincere soul can create the most magnificent work.

(1) I love you not because of who you are, but because of who I am when I am with you.

我爱你，不是因为你是一个怎样的人，而是因为我喜欢与你在一起时的感觉。

I think it’s a higher and profound level for love. We recognize or discover our true desire and happiness. We are attracted not only by his or her charm but furthermore, by the nice feeling and affection.

(2) No man or woman is worth your tears, and the one who is, won‘t make you cry.

没有人值得你流泪，值得让你这么做的人不会让你哭泣。

Our true lover’s feeling, happiness, gladness, depression, melancholy, anxiety, and longing, are more important than our own. The one who appears smart and carefree only implies that he doesn’t have you at heart. The innocent and gullible girl should especially notice this.

(3) The worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside them knowing you can’t have them.

If she feels happy, it’s not bad to let her in her world. After all, I want her happy.

(4) Never frown, even when you are sad, because you never know who is falling in love with your smile.

This sentence just touches me to the heart. When shall I pay back their ocean-vast love? Maybe this lifetime can’t achieve it. I can just do more as I can to requite this kindness.

(6) Don‘t waste your time on a man/woman, who isn‘t willing to waste their time on you.

不要为那些不愿在你身上花费时间的人而浪费你的时间。

Someone’s kindness touched me impressively, and someone’s foulness annoyed me furiously. Just like two opposite end: hot and cold, light and darkness, justice and evil, they will coexist forever. We’d better get far away from vicious soul.

(7) Just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to, doesn’t mean they don‘t love you with all they have.

爱你的人如果没有按你所希望的方式来爱你，那并不代表他们没有全心全意地爱你。

A bit more understanding, a bit less subjective prejudice, this world will become much more wonderful.

Everything is changing and developing. We tend to cling to the past. But we have to stride forward. We move on for a better life? Maybe just because we have no choice!
