My first drawing "masterpiece"
2008-06-24 12:03:40
I am so happy that my first drawing masterpiece came to life today. When I finished it with the pen, I felt a great sense of achievement. If I can go on drawing, I believe, that feeling will be the source of strength.
We had three-week drawing course this summer vacation. I stay in school instead of going back out of the interest in drawing. Maybe it is a strange thing for others, but for me, it is a dream deeply rooted in my heart.
The common belief is that drawing is an art. In acient times, people can draw, write, and play instruments. And children were educated to learn those art forms. Nowadays, little kids are requred to learn those to be all-round developed people. I learn drawing out of the need to draw. In my opinion, drawing, as well as writing and singing, is a way to realease your feelings such as sorrow, happiness and other complex feelings. A person with the hobby will live a relatively easier life.
I hope I can learn how to draw within three weeks. And when it becomes my lasting hobby and habit, I can draw in my leisure time.

How to make a good campain speech
2008-06-14 20:45:46
A campain for the leaders of Students Union was held this afternoon.Every competitor made a three-minute campain speech with the aid of PPT.I didn't participate in the campain but was among the voters. So I had a good chance to watch them give speeches and make judgements. Through my observation and group discussion, we come to a conclusion of what makes a good speech giver.
Firstly, we should speak loudly, slowly, clearly and passionately. Our voice makes a difference in giving the audience first impression. If it is loud, clear and beautiful, you can attract audience's attention within minutes.
Remember:First impression is very important for a speech giver. Secondly, organize and simplify your speech. Make it in clear order so audience can catch the points. You should speak to the points and avoid talking nonsense, or else you may contribute to the sleep-deprived people's fast sleep. Don't fidget, and control your voice, don't let it go hoarse because of nervousness. There is no point making your mind in a total mess. You are ready and all is set for a relaxing presentation.
Thirdly, express thanks to people who helped you.Do appreciate the time of both judges an audience at the end of your speech. People are apt to prefer those with good manners. They are glad to hear a humble person.
Fourthly, add some spices to your speech. The majority prefer a cup of coffee to a cup of mild water. Add jokes or a little humour to your speech, then you will win audience's laughters.Add poetic words to your speech, then you will win appreciation. Add more sincerety to your speech, then you will win understanding. Add more feasible notions to your speech, then you will win the convinction.
What do you think about how to give a good speech? Do you have the experiences?

Thoughts about Lun Yu(《论语》)
2008-04-19 20:37:11
Lun Yu, a book in which Kong zi's students reported his words and behavīors. For thousands of years, Kong zi has been Chinese's teacher. In modern times, there is also a need to learn from him.
Recently, I read the articles written by Yu Dan, the person who gives excellent lectures in Bai Jia Jiang Tan, about her understanding of Lun Yu. From her writing, I learn sth. new, sth.true, and sth.useful.
First, many Chinese believe that everyone is born kind-hearted. In fact, Kong Zi never taught that. He just taught that everyone is born to tend to be kind. So we need education and social disciplines to keep us from evil. In this case, only with education, can a person be perfect.
Second, about making friends. We should avoid the state of mind: high self-inportance. Because the world is made up of all individuals, you should never
fix all your attention on yourself if you want to make friends. Once I read a sentence which taught me a lot: It takes three years to make a friend when you talk about yourself;it takes three minutes to make a friend when you talk about him. To a degree, it's reasonable.
Third,About great ambitions and feasible actions
Kong Zi believed that any great ambition is deeply rooted in the most honest virtues, in the self-perfect of personalities. We should search deep within our hearts before persuing high social status and abundant material.
After reading Kong Zi's words,I conclude that life should not be always on the go, and we should smell the roses. Slow down your steps. Focus on your needs of your heart and soul. Tressure your friends and care about others more than yourself.
Happy to communicate with you on Lun Yu. Hope to
share your gains after reading good books.
troditional Korean clothing and Chinese-style dress
2008-04-14 09:23:33
Troditioal Korean clothing has its roots extending back at least as the Three Kindom Period,as evidenced by wall paintings in tombs from this period. The Korean clothing represents one of the most visible aspects of Korean culture.
The top part is blouse-like with long sleeves with men's version being longer, streching down to the waist. Women wear skirts and men wear baggy pants. Commoners wear white except during festivals and special occasions such as weddings. Clothes for upper classes were made of bright colours and indicated the wearers'social status. Various accessories such as foot gear, jewelery and headdresses or hair pins completed the outfit.
Then let's take a look at the traditional Cheongsam. It is the troditional dress for Chinese women. In Qing Dinasty, women had dresses of Man style and Han style. Women of Man people wore gown while women of Han People wore blouse and skirts.
Cheongsam became popular in the 1920s. It was out of dresses of Man Peopleand greatly improved by Han people. From then on, Cheongsam kept popular for more than twenty years. The styles had been changed several times. It completely
showed women's beauty, thus making a great contribution to women's liberation. We should notice that, women in the entertainment places made great contributions to Chengsam.
From 1930s, Cheonsam became popular among most women. Women in the countryside, rich women, workers, students all wore Cheongsam. Later, it spreaded overseas and worn by foreign women.
About Olympic Games
2008-03-19 19:06:45
Recently, my advanced English teacher gave a new definition to the word "God". G-O-D: Green, Ocean, Design. This new idea inspired me of thinking of it in context with the Olympic Games. We al know that China is doing its utmost to hold a "green Olympics," a "hi-tech Olympics" and "the people's Olympics" in 2008. One of the key words "green" has attracted so much attention that we Chinese citizens should take the opportunity to contribute to the Olympic spirit. The Olympics is a grand gathering of people that will carry forward the tradition of excellence, promote world peace and enchance friendship among the nations of the world.
As a university student, I ask myself, "What can I do? How can I contribute?" I remember the sentences describing the "Green Olympics". "Green-colored sunshine through soft leaves, all the green days in the growth rings telling legend to the future and the past. These green hopes in the Olympic rings are just like warm hugs and brilliant haloes under the blue sky of Beijing." What a beautiful picture! But still I am faced with the question of how to make the idea of "a green world" come true.
In my humble opinion, it is necessary to raise public awareness of the importance of the Olympics. Only people who realize that it will take a united world to achieve such great ideas will make a difference. There is little we cannot do in operation. Divided, there is little we can do for such a great challenge will seem too large for us to take on individually. In addition, actions speak louder than words. Why talk about the "green world" if we aren't willing to bend down and pick up the plastic bottle near our feet? Although some of us cannot be volunteers at the Olympics, we can all bear this vision in mind and make contributions in some other way.
At last, I conclude by imitating a few sentences from President John F. Kennedy's inangrual address: My friend, please ask not what the Olympic can do for you; ask what you can do for it.
About 2008 Olympic Games
2008-03-19 17:34:00
August 8th.2008- a day that we are anxiously awaiting and anticipating. The coming of that glorious day with its heroic achievements streching the limits of human performance is surely to inspire us all. The torch has been passed to our country, and for a fleeting moment in time, we will see its symbolism for it is symbolic of the possibility of a more peaceful and lovely world.
This is a historic occasion. It establishes a firm basis for confidence stability, prosperty and growth. This is a task for a confident people, which is what we have been throughout our history and what we are in our deepest character.
This is a historic occasion, it provides a wide stage for charm, pretige, and prominence. Let us show the value to which the world aspires and beautifully and distincly present it.
This is a historic occasion. The eyes of the world are upon us. The hope and prayers of free-loving people everywhere watch with us. Fir if we believe, there is nothing we cannot achieve. All things are possible.
Our nation has a special place now in the long history of the world. The essence of the story is particularly unique. Equiped with the knowledge that charm does not only lie in its fabulous tradition and culture, our nation is ready for a world that lies united in spirit and power. United, there is little we can not do in a host of cooperative ventures. Divided, there is little we can do, for we dare not meet a powerful challenge. Therefore, we can see a society of openness: open cities, open skies, open minds, and open hearts. Fortunately, it is certain that all of these will be open to all the colors of the world in the 2008 Olympic Games. In our hands will rest the final success. We believe that.
When our aspiration becomes reality, it will be a unique Olympics on August 8th. 2008. Let us broaden our eyes and encourage our hearts to welcome it.

The colours of the interlinked Olympic rings were chosen by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) , to represent the union of the 5 continents , Australia , Africa , America , Asia and Europe and further signify the meeting of the worlds athletes at the Olympic Games.
The plain white background of the Olympic flag is symbolic of peace throughout the games. The five colours of the rings from left to right are blue, black and red across the top with yellow and green along the bottom , these colours may be found on most flags of the world and officially hold no other particular significance , although some believe each colour represents a particular continent.

'Supergirl' Volunteer
Meet Li Na, a second year graduate student from Beijing Language and Culture University. This jolly, good-humored "Good Luck Beijing" volunteer has earned the nickname "Supergirl" due to her unending efforts and infectious spirit in helping the capital city gear up for the Games. [Full story]The Olympic Rings

"These five rings -- blue, yellow, black, green and red -- represent the five parts of the world now encompassed by Olympism and ready to compete against each other. Moreover, the six colours (including the white background) thus combined represent those of all nations, without exception. The blue and yellow of Sweden, the blue and white of Greece, the French, English, American, German, Belgian, Italian and Hungarian tricolours, the yellow and red of Spain are side by side with the new Brazilian and Australian flags, the old Japan and the new China. It is a true international emblem."
Coubertin (Selected Writings II, p. 460, 1913).
As an image of Olympism, Coubertin thought the rings had deep significance: that of the union between men. He multiplied the image to create a total of five rings. He designed and commissioned the Olympic flag to mark the 20th anniversary of the IOC's founding, on 23rd June 1914 in Paris. Coubertin never said nor wrote that he saw a link between the colours of the rings and the continents. For him, the five rings represented the union of the five continents, but the colours were merely those that appeared in all the different national flags at the time.
-- The results of a survey carried out in six countries (Australia, Germany, India, Japan, Great Britain and the USA) in 1995 showed that 92% of those questioned correctly identified the Olympic rings, which made them the most-recognised symbol. They were followed by the McDonald's and Shell emblems (88%), Mercedes (74%) and the United Nations (36%). (SRI Sponsorship Research International).
-- 86% of those questioned associated the Olympic rings with the world's greatest sports event: the Olympic Games. (SRI Sponsorship Research International, 1995).

The Olympic Movement
On 23 June, 1894, Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee in a ceremony held at the University of Sorbonne in Paris. Demetrius Vikelas from Greece became the first president of the IOC. Two years later, in 1896, the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in Athens.More>> BEIJING 2008
