Ocean China's education is too mechanical, they just want to pass test and have a high mark! in China, if you study very well.you do everything is right! on the contrary,if you do not study well.you are worng.
Everyone is different, but there is only one way students can be successful, they did not have their idea

I agree with Kathy too.
The most serious problem with the Education in China is at the basic or the compusory Education. The kids are only too young to study for more than 12 hours a day. This is what in my eyes:"Take the eggs before they are hatched."

I agree with Kathy....
Kids should learn how to control themselves but not be controlled by their parents and teachers....After all, one day, they will grow up and live on their own.....if they still need someone else to control them to work hard, then they will fail their life totally.....
Education especially studying shouldn't be a kind of torture for students....Imagine if students feel fun when they are in the class and doing thier homework, why they will go to Internet Cafe and escape from real life....
I agree that Chinese students are far better at Maths than us...but please remember China not only needs Mathematicians but also people with real practical abilities.....
As I said in my first message here, Education should target various objectives and balance all the objectives.....I am not saying to abandom "high marks" or theoretical knowladge totally....I am saying your education should not only focus on "High Marks"......
I know it is a hugh project if you people want to absolutely change your education system...some problems such as "big population" can not be solved in a short term...however, I still think your education minister should have done better for you and your future generation.....

We can see China's current situation,more and more urban students are forced to study in rural public school or private school,why?In fact,the education environment in urban area will be much better than rural area.That's because there are so many bad factors in urban area, they can't focus on their study,they will play computer after school,or go to the game room for enjoyment.But in rural area,they can't find such good place to play,when they have nothing to do,they will think of their homework.

In some parents' opinion, to bury students into homework is better than to entertain. I feel sad about this.
Why not ask ourselves the reason for students' rushing into web cafe?
Do they have any amusement in their life?
It's stupid not to make a full use of urban envirionment.

No matter how famous the scientist is, I'm not standing on his side.Because the criterion of measuring an education is diverse. From the angle of how many Olympic maths medals Chinese kids gained in international matches, China's basic education can be considered successful,but concerning their creativity and DIY, I'm afraid chinese kids may lag behind.
And I also hold the opinion that our frustrated higher education results from unsuccessful basic education.
They are related not separete.

If i were given the right to change something stupid in China's education, the first thing I do would free you from long hour working and give your kid changes to enjoy staying with his/her daddy. Are all middle school teachers desperate for that?

I'm working an institute attached to a public university but run by singapore. And in the past 8 years, I worked in a private language institute. I've been teaching in the medium size of class of 30 students.
What school I described is China's middle school, either north or south, the case is the same.
All students in college are products of previous education. It's too late to mend the mistakes made in students' past two decades.That's why I worried and yell to change something from a earlier stage.

Foreiners know that our Chinese pupils are more clever than other countries students in the same age.But as to the university students,the
creativity and study ability.A interesting phenomena,our Chinese students can get a higher mark in GRE's math part,from our Chinese students's eyes,they think it is just the middle school's lever.

Kathy, I feel a bit confused what kind of school you teach in...
Is that a private school ? since you said there are only 30 people in your class...your students are pretty mature around 20....and some your workmates are foreigners..
Or you work both in a private school and a strict public school???

Is that prison? All students before univeristy start from 9:30am and finish and 4:00pm...and this is our law....
Well, It is wrong to keep students study that long...I don;t care what you argue back, it is just not right....
Kids are kids, they need to have fun in their childhood! Are your education system trying to train them like computers??

I believe education should focus on various objectives and definitely shouldn't be only one such as "only aim to get high marks" or "only aim to get good jobs in future"...

It is actually a simple question.....education should focus on all the issues and try to develop a person in a good way physically and mentally..
Education should encourage creativity (free spirit as Kathy said)
It also should help children get better marks...
It also should train kids to be both theoretical and practical...
It also should teach kids good values, good life attitude,
It also should encourage students to communicate with eveyone such as parents, teachers....
So education doesn't have one objective..it is a multi-purpose job actually....
Whatsoever, I think your education department can do better than today....don;t know why their improving process is so slow and how can they sleep well when all the children in China are suffering from studying.....
