  • New “A wolf and a Lamb”

    2008-03-30 17:04:41

New “A wolf and a Lamb”

On grassland there was a lamb. He was the meekest and most obedient of all animals. He had no other desires in life but to have enough grass to eat. He wanted no luxury. He was in short of nothing but some fresh grass. From time to time he might have a sunbath, and that was the most extravagant thing in the world for him to share.

One day in spring he was meandering in the meadow, eating grass randomly. Once for a while he would meet and say hello to his friends like the rabbit, the dragonfly, and the deer. He so contend with life. Unwittingly he came to the bank of a river. He decided to drink some water since he didn’t have any water for his breakfast. It was only after his mouth left the water did he realize what was happening to him--- a wild wolf was standing before him.

“Why did you make my water dirty, you little bastard?” the wolf shouted with a protruded tongue and exposure of teeth. Tremulously the lamb protested: “My dear Mr. Wolf, you are from the upstream while I am from the downstream. How can I make your water dirty?”

“Really?” with a vicious quick turn of the wit the wolf went on: “Well, you bullied my little son and flee last year. How will you explain this?” “My benevolent Mr. Wolf, I was not even born last year.” “Then it must be your father. It is all the same with me.” The wolf jumped toward the poor little lamb.

Under the totalitarian rule, can you have any chance to excuse yourself even if you have done nothing wrong? The lamb will never be match for the wolf.

  • The tiger

    2008-03-29 18:46:50

                                 The tiger

Long long ago there was a  ferocious tiger that lived freely in a forest. He could do everything he wanted to do. He had plenty of food to eat. Sometimes he chased rabbits for fun. Sometimes he ran after deer for food. All the other animals paid homage to him and he enjoyed it so much.

His happy life came to an end when he was caught by a hunter. He fell into the snare and was bound and carried to a zoo, where he was expected to be trained to be a good performer.

Losing his freedom, he was bored of everything there in the zoo. He refused to take food, despite the fresh meat that was thrown to him directly. The trainer gave no attention to this. He said to his followers: “Don’t bother watching him and let him be. Food will bend him at last.”

What he said was true. After one or two days the tiger was so hungry and he began to eat what was given to him. Then the trainer asked him to mimicry the sound of a cat. He said: “ I am the greatest king of the forest. I won’t mimicry a little cat’s voice.” “Don’t give him food and let him go hungry.” At last the tiger compromised and was given some meat.

Then he was asked to mimicry the sound of a donkey. He didn’t agree and after only several hours’ suffering he conceded. What he got for this was some meat.

Then he was asked to walk round and round until the trainer said “stop”. At first he was so reluctant to do so. However for fear of hunger he did what was exactly asked of him.

The next day when the trainer came near the cage, the tiger requested: “Ask me to walk again and give me some food, ok?” The trainer proudly said to his men: “See how obedient the tiger, king of the forest, is?” After that he was trained to be the most dexterous performer in the zoo and won a lot of money for the boss. What he could only get was still some meat, barely enough for his stomach.

At last, the tiger becomes the public and the zoo the society and the trainer the government.

  • What is the use of it?

    2008-03-25 11:13:23

What is the use of it?

To keep the national unity of a country is so important. On hearing the disturbances and loses in Tibet some of my friends enquired into the necessity to keep Tibet as one part of our country.

It is common sense to every Chinese that the government pays a lot of money to assist the Tibetans to have a better life. There is no financial income from Tibet. But some people, for their invidious and perfidious purposes, have committed so atrocious a crime to return evil for good. So it is understandable for my friends to make such remarks.

Yes, financially speaking there is no need to keep it. However, we are all citizens of one country. The government has full responsibilities to help us live a better life, whether the place we live in is fertile or sterile. We belong to the country. It is like our mother, who cares nothing for our belongings and property. We are indiscriminately loved by her. Does anyone love a mother who deserts any of her poor children? So it is the responsibility to take the poor son as her child and try to breed him as well as possible.

Nevertheless, the mother will be very sad if she takes care of, or even coddles the poor child in such a way and has been disowned and rebuffed the motherhood. Can anyone with good conscience think it right?

Of course, the people who claimed responsibility for the riot are only those who are followers of Dalai Lama, and those who have been misleading. Cultural and ethnical differences are easily utilized as excuses for making such strife. Any attempts like this should be denounced and boycotted.

No matter we are useful to our country or not, our motherland will indiscriminately accept us all. What is the use for us to make troubles like this?

  • What are the causes of the turmoil?

    2008-03-24 15:52:43

What are the causes of the turmoil?

Recently there have been riots in Tibet. Someone told me there are other unreported such turmoil in other parts of China, such as Xinjiang. I don’t know what exactly the causes for such disturbances are.

There should be no causes of such disturbances within the boundary of China. It appeared in western media that the fundamental causes are cries of the common people in those areas for independence. Would they really benefit from the so-called independence? I know from my experience that the Chinese government has been providing financial support for those minority-resident areas. When I was in university, there were a lot of students from Tibet were receiving education for free, while we had to pay all the costs by ourselves. At that time we thought it unfair. However now I know the Tibetans are still not content with such favorable treatment.

Of course most of the residents in Tibet are beneficiaries of the present national policy towards them. It is only Dalai lama, the former Buddhist leader of Tibet, who has been seeking to regain the power to rule over the territory. People from western countries may say that it is the right of the local people to determine what a life they may lead. However can a country, being plunged into wars and disruptions all day long, gain some welfare for its people? The former Yugoslavia, Soviet Union, for example, have met severe setbacks in the development of economy. Any destruction of something already existent and the construction of something new will mean a great cost of all kinds of human and natural resources. Therefore, the preservation of peace and unity in any country will benefit all residents there. Reunification, however, can do well to all the people within a country. Federal Germany and Democratic Germany, when united, have proved to be much powerful and influential in the international forum. That is the very reason why most Chinese aspire for a peaceful unity. Because of what aforesaid, why should we sabotage our national security and jeopardize the welfare of most Chinese by supporting the disturbances like what have happened in Tibet? So except for a few extremists headed by Dalai Lama, there will be seldom anyone that will give support.

Are there any powers or countries in the world who intend to take risks to cause riots within China for their own benefits? The answer may be in the affirmative. China has been developing very fast economically and its national prestige is growing. As the representative of all countries of the Third World, China has been receiving unprecedented homage from all over the world. Many countries in the world are envious of this. They allegedly regard the growth of China as a threat to their own security. So they hate it so much as to utilize whatever means to destroy, at least to put pressure on, the peaceful development of China. What is more, in order to keep its dominance over the world, some country makes every effort to avoid any country that has the prospect of becoming one of the multipolars. It is with the help of these countries that Dalai Lama can have the ability to create such atrocious turmoil.

All in all, admittedly Dalai Lama, under the instigation and support of western powers, has conspired against the Chinese government to make such disturbances. That is the very cause.

  • A TURBULENT UPHEAVAL

    2008-03-23 21:23:50

      A piece of astounding news

Since my TV doesn’t work for a long time, I don’t know what is happening in the world. Today from Wangi I read the atrocious news about the recent atrocities committed by those rebels there in Tibet.

The unscrupulous atrocities were committed by hundreds of rebels and some other people who had been instigated. There was a casualty of about thirteen civilians, among them were five girls who had been still at their prime age. Most of the people in Lhasa held a public ceremony to moan and show their adolescence over the girls. Seeing their parents crying I couldn’t help shedding tears for their misfortune. It was too sudden and out of expectation. One of a common civilian’s ears was cut off so inhumanely. There was reported a total loss of 300,000,000 RMB.

It is said that the exiled former nominal leader of Tibet, Dalai Lama, was responsible for the barbarous and heinous killings and burnings. He has ever been seeking chances to separate Tibet from our motherland, to resume his self-willed rule over his paradise lost.

The accident must have been carefully and invidiously thought out and planned by the extremists. They must have aimed to put pressure or create violence before the forthcoming Olympic Games, therefore to put our government to shame and therefore to put forward their process to separate Tibet from the motherland. It has its international background and Dalai Lama has its supporters in other countries. Several countries have borne the vicious attempt to disrupt China in Chinese history. No one in China can forget the crimes that have been committed by those foreign invaders in the history of China.

Tibet has been a part of China since so long ago. Any attempts to separate it from China must end in vain. Maybe some pressure can be put to the government of China. There is nothing else they can gain other than that. Undeniably a fact it is that no country can benefit from a disruption of a country, the former Soviet Union, being only an example. On the contrary, we can live better in a unified and strong country. In the past decades China has seen its leaping forward of its national economy and its soaring international prestige. No one is ashamed of being a Chinese like the people were several decades ago. Several western countries don’t like to seen the development and growing of China. They regarded that as a threat and therefore they bear an envious and unwelcome attitude.

As civilians of China, we should uphold the national banner of unity and the holy sovereignty of China over all her territories. Let’s join together against all those bitter, despicable, atrocious, treacherous and violent acts of the separatists.

Always remember the fact that we are many, they are few.

  • I am so exhausted.

    2008-03-20 17:01:10

        I am so exhausted.

I returned to school after the funeral held for my grandfather. I wish he is living peacefully in heaven.

I have been too much bored of the unnecessary and overelaborate formalities. I had to kowtow so frequently and I was so exhausted after that. We were formed in line in white and repeated the formalities. I didn’t know what it really meant. What a feel was that we were just like monkeys, or puppets, with strings in others’ hands. It was so ridiculous.

I had to do what I was asked to do, since the formalities had been in its form for so long a time. We were expected to follow them. Any violation against them was against the hearts of my country folks. I am a member of the cottage and I didn’t want to be a rebel.

When my mother died, I showed so much reluctance to follow the rules. So many people, both from the outsiders and my family, criticized me for an arrant violation against a set rule in their eyes. Finally I could do nothing but to conform to their suggestions and did what I was supposed to do.

I am both mentally and physically fatigued now. I have to take rests during my work intervals, to refresh my mind and body.

  • Are Chinese people so keen on sex?

    2008-03-14 16:56:34

Are Chinese people so keen on sex?

From Monica’s articles I feel she is quite curious about the fact that so many Chinese are so interested in sex. Here I want to explain a little here to dispel some of her doubts.

China is a country with so long a history of about more than 5000 years. Feudalism has been the dominant part during the period. During the feudal ages, all ladies were looked down upon as the second citizens. They even became “dolls” of the emperors, or government officials. Even within a common peasants’ family, women were discriminated. They were assigned heavy domestic work to do---do chores, breed the children, and tend to the elderly. Boys were regarded as blessings from the god to prolong the family history, while girls were only wedded out as members of other family. It was very common to see that all the family was exhilarated at the birth of a boy, however rather sad at a girl. Women’s secondary position in the society made sex a natural belonging of men’s. No one would brag about his sex in public, since it is too natural, normal and common thing to all men, not a privilege in others’ eyes. Sex was not a mutual enjoyment, but only a service on the part of the women. So, in the past, it was sheer atrocious shamelessness for a woman to be bodacious enough to claim that she liked sex. They were under the yoke of feudalism oppression. There were very few women who did this. Pan Jinlian was one of them. However she was regarded as the most licentious woman in Chinese history.

So in the feudalism period, it is regarded as immoral to talk about sex.

After the last dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, was overthrown, fresh liberal thoughts and ideas came from the western period. However, people were still reluctant to talk about it.

Even after the People’s Republic of China was founded, any topics have relation to sex were looked on as obscene and immoral. During the Cultural Revolution, such a state became worse. Once I read a story from a magazine, which was about a love letter from a girlfriend to a boyfriend who was a soldier. She wrote in her letter that she just couldn’t forget her experience of pleasure when they were rolling under the quilt. The letter was opened and the contents disclosed. The result was the dismissal from the army of her boyfriend. He had had a promising career in the army. Another story was about a girl who went to the army to see her boyfriend. She had sex with her boyfriend. After returning home she wrote to her boyfriend that she was pregnant. Her boyfriend was also dismissed. Ironically when he went back home, he found his girlfriend was not pregnant, only something wrong with her tummy. He lost a very good opportunity to be promoted in the army in his life. Young people before marriage couldn’t see or even know each other. All affairs were arranged by the parents. Ridiculously the fathers were even abashed at seeing their own children. They wouldn’t even go out with their wives openly.

It was only after the effective implementation of the open-door policy by Deng Xiaoping in 1980s that people felt a little free to look face to sex. Under the influence of western culture, youngsters became more and more liberal. ‘

However now, people are still unable to openly claim that they like sex. They are still sheepish or afraid of being condemned. They may refrain from touching upon sex while in his blog or in a chatroom he may be anonymously brave enough to make advances to ladies. That is why people from abroad find something erotic just boring while we Chinese are just amused.

I wish what I said may explain a little to foreign friends the reason why we Chinese are interested in sex talks.

    About the latest events

Recently two things have happened to two acquaintances of mine. They are both suffering from usury. One of them has fled after an immediate divorce and the other has sold his house, which is the only of his in order to pay off the debts.

They two have had a fervent desire to become rich at no costs. However they are both teachers, how can they be expected to amass wealth at a quick speed and therefore enjoy the luxury that can be brought about. They have paid for their adventures dearly.

One of them has been dumped into loading money from some usurer and he just can’t pay for it now, which is why he sold his house. The other has loaned one million Yuan from the bank, and wished to use it as a capital to loan it to others. His dream to become usurer himself has failed. And he had to flee from his home. In order to estrange his wife from his misfortune, he divorced his wife, only to flee alone.

Hearing the adventures of the two guys, I feel adventures are not as funny as those of Tom Sawyer. They are only tragic. Not only they themselves, but also his families, are suffering from their blindfold adventures.

I would rather be deemed as the most incapable man in the world than letting my family be tormented by such worries and cares.

So many Chinese are out of employment now. They have to make a living. It may be desperate attempts for them to make a living. Though we are deemed so low in the society, we don’t have to worry about our survival. We have a salary, though meager, to base our life on. Why not be content with our present lifestyle and give our family a stable and adequate income.

Some may say I am only shortsighted and incapable. But we are teachers, we should concentrate on our job. So long as we want to do our best in our job, where can we find time to do all these businesses?

So many people are very ambitious in our society. They think they are only competent to do more in life. They are not content with their living conditions. They are avid for changes. However the reason why they suffer so much from the speculation is that they plunged into it without careful deliberation.

I think we should take lessons from their sufferings and misfortunes. It is not bad for us to be ambitious. What matters most is we should think twice before we leap.

  • God bless me

    2008-03-13 14:42:06

                            God bless me

Yesterday I had to stay at school to watch over the students in the school dormitory. It was raining. What bad luck!

After a quick supper I put on my raincoat and trudged towards school. I felt it a pity because I couldn’t help my students with his homework at home. When I got to the school it was still early. I went to my office to switch off the computer. The leader who should be on duty that night called me that he was having dinner so I had to go to the dormitory and did my job without supervision.

I had to stay outside and went from one room to another to make sure the students were safe. There are more than 1000 students in the dormitory, so it was quite hard work. What was the worst, it was much too noisy. With the help of the worker whose duty is making sure that students are in order, I finally kept the students in order.

It was after all the students had gone to bed and fallen asleep that my job came to an end. Exhaustedly I went to my room. After reading the novel “Jane Eyre” for about twenty minutes, I went to sleep.

When it dawned this morning, I woke up and got dressed. I had to go to the playground and made sure all the students were running safely. After that I went back home to get my son to school. It only left me about forty minutes. So I had to be in a hurry. Till then my overnight duty had finished.

I felt only too tired. Fortunately there had been no students who became ill at night and I had a short but sound sleep. God bless me!

  • The sudden change of the weather

    2008-03-12 16:30:09

The sudden change of the weather

Since last night it has been very cold, which will put a negative impact on our health. I caught a cold, however I managed to win it by several tablets.

Today it becomes colder. I have to warn my son not to take off his clothes too suddenly to avoid a possible cold. What is outside is a gloomy sky, which makes my heart gloomy too. No matter how I wish to keep a good composure of mind, the weather holds such a sway on my mind. Most probably it does so on others’ minds too. Neither take delight in nor feel sorry for all things beside you or the weather. Our ancestors told us so. Nevertheless, I just don’t know how to deal with it.

The school issued severe rules against using computers for amusement when we are at work. From time to time my ambition to write a blog every day is thwarted. Yet, sometimes I feel something pressing within me. I want to write them down. It is not writing for writing’s sake actually. I only want to write something, with no other purposes. It is becoming a necessary way to diversify my life, or enrich it.

Secluded in the dungeon, we have no other ambitions but to find something to amuse us. We have long been disillusioned with life as a teacher. We have been accustomed to a state of being looked down upon, which has makes us numb.

Like a jailed prisoner, we are not afraid of being insulted or humiliated since we are insulted or humiliated all day long. What is more, it is only ridiculous for us to be regarded as rebels by the leaders and we are frequently threatened by severe reprisals if we dare to do so. Our senses to rebel even a little have been completely smothered. We don’t have the least intention to do so since we are constantly under the pressure of work. We have long become obedient, numb slaves. It is our fate. We admitted it to be true long ago.

There should not be any antagonism and strife in the field of education. What can you expect from it? Only fuck stupid men want it.

I have been too tired of any such kind of things. What is the use of it?

  • Spring has come

    2008-03-11 14:40:11

              Spring has come

I feel so warm today. It has been sunny for several consecutive days. I feel like taking off the thick clothes I am wearing. However after a running for several rounds on the playground, I am feeling uncomfortable. Perhaps I have caught a very bad cold.

In autumn, remember to put on more clothes gradually. When we come to spring, remember to take off clothes in the same way. That is what our ancestors told us. I have violated this rule and it deserves me to suffer from it. I have no complaints.

Despite the cold I am suffering, I can still feel the warm massage of spring. Her warm hands are on every vein of mine.

Spring is the best season for kite-flying. My son has asked me to buy a new for him this year. We have tried for several times but in vain for lack of wind.

What is more, in spring, everything that has been dormant in winter has come back to life. It is so sweet a feeling to see some fresh buds in the trees. The grass is also becoming green. The people seem to have been revived. They get so active and energetic. The sky looks even bluer than ever.

“Since winter has come, can spring be far behind.” Percy Becy Shelly has such a verse. However winter seemed just too long for its inflexible and rigid manner.

Let’s enjoy the warm, fragrant spring together!

  • On hearing the sad news

    2008-03-10 17:04:03

          On hearing the sad news

Last night when I was in the classroom watching over the students, I received a telephone from my sister that my grandfather, who is 90 years old now, is most probably passing away. I felt very sad, mentally depressed at such happenings.

Within the past two years two members of my family have passed away, my mother and my eldest uncle. It seems that life and death, takes only an moment and the fire of death, is so easily smothered but so hard to be kindled. We were born to the earth. We live a life for only several decades, and then we swiftly plunge into the depth of grave and enjoy the everlasting, never-to-rise sleep.

When my mother was on her bed passing away, she managed to get up and then lie down again several times. I didn’t know what she was thinking. She just looked at me. It seemed that she had got something to say. However she was already incapacitated by the disease. Her suffering was like a knife, cutting me to the quick. The next morning I went to the hospital to buy the painkiller (a medicine that may reduce the pain), though it was so cold that morning. I knew most probably it was the last thing I could do for her on the earth. She kicked the bucket the next night. She lost her consciousness before the last moment came. Some liquid came out from her mouth. My sister wiped it away. Gradually we couldn’t feel her pulse. And then she departed, from the mundane world.

Now it is my grandfather’s turn. He is 90 years now. Before the Spring Festival I went back home to see him. He found it so difficult to support his body since he is both tall and heavy. For most of the time he was just sitting there and taking drowsy. He was unaware of his secretion even. Fortunately my third uncle was tending to him carefully.

Now I still have no news what is happening.
  • About prostitution in China

    2008-03-08 18:00:35

    About prostitution in China

According to Monica, all prostitutes in New Zealand have been leading a happy and enjoyable life. They have chosen the profession voluntarily, without any outside pressure. They haven’t done that out of poverty, which is amazing.

Things are a lot different from what is happening in China. The prostitutes have come from these sources: 1. those who are pretty. They want to make profits on the primitive capital provided by their parents. 2. Those who are afraid of hard work. They look on it (prostitution) as an easier way to make more money with the least cost of physical exertion. 3. Those that have been lured by the luxurious lifestyle and so avid for it; however they can find no other means to achieve it. 4. Those that have been dumped in their life and therefore lost faith in life. They have taken the most degenerated way of life in others’ eyes, to flirt with life. 5. Those that have come from impoverished family. They have no other way to provide for their families except this one. 6. Those that have been forced by gangsters of any kind to become prostitutes.

The first four sources have made up the majority of the prostitutes. Undeniably most of the prostitutes are pretty and have good figures. They have regarded this as their divine gift from god and want to make the fullest use of it. So they take to prostitution, which is, needless to say, the fastest way to amass wealth with the least cost of labor. What is more, this kind of job needs very little training. So far as they are pretty and are able to spread their legs, everything is ok. I have great sympathy for those who are forced to be prostitutes by poverty. They are not doing it out of willingness. They have be made to so since otherwise they would have no way to for their families or themselves to survive. Most of them in the last case have been so destitute that they have received very little, if not at all, education.

What Monica said is true that prostitution is illegal in China. It is prevalently regarded as a vicious phenomenon of our society. The prostitutes need not to pay the taxes, therefore they are not protected by law. Some of them are even threatened or swindled by some of the corrupt policeman, and live a tragic life. They have become, in some hypocritical people’s eyes, a tumor of the society.

There is still no denying that where there is widespread prostitution, there will be affluent economy. The close link between these two has in a way, changed a lot of the government officials’ opinion on it and therefore they have showed more patience and tolerance to it.

Before the foundation of the People’s Republic of China, prostitution was legal in China. It is only after the liberation that it has been eliminated. The appearance and development of it has been closely together with the development of our national economy. It must be what has been advocated by the senior leader of China, Deng Xiaoping, “the flies and mosquitoes imported from the western world together with the better and most effective ways of developing the economy.”

Without the protection of the law, a lot of the prostitutes have been abused, and even killed. They daren’t show their true identity, since prostitution is legal. They have to take refuge in the corners of the society. In such cases no one is sure of their security. Prostitutes in New Zealand are living in the paradise, making more money in a legal and easy way.

As to Monica’s view that whenever she touches upon prostitution, she receives more attention, I want to say that we have undergone so long a period of ancient and modern feudalistic obscurity on sex. No one has any courage to admit that he is interested in it. Whenever we touch upon it we will be instantly intimidated into submission to silence. Even now we are not free to speak it out. On line we are safe. So it is natural we are interested in it, with our moral masks off.

I am far from being an expert on prostitution. What I show here is my personal observations and views. Prostitution is not something to be eliminated, rooted out easily. It is the close accompaniment of the development of our national economy.

  • In a state of depression

    2008-03-04 07:55:26

     In a state of depression

From time to time I am feeling I am in a state of depression. I know setbacks and frustrations in work have caused some very severe, negative impact on me. I don’t know how to deal with such a tough situations. I have tried my best to make up for what may have put to my blame. However in daily communications and interactions with others only with goodwill I can’t get what I expect. It must be true that I should let things be.

What I worry about is that frequent falling into the depth of depression won’t do me any good. I should strive to estrange myself from it. Be optimistic every day and look to the best side of things. That is what I always tell myself.

What matters most to me, and to others in the world, is that we should live a life far away from all those meaningless cares and worries, and try our best to take care of our family, especially our kids. We rose from the grave and to thence we will return. What is more important than our life?

A new year has been ushered in. Time is pressing. I will try to make life as enjoyable as ever.

  • What is the way to improve our English?

    2008-03-02 16:34:41

What is the way to improve our English?

To me, English is not only something for me to make a living by, but also an amusement to enrich my life. Therefore, to speak and write in perfect English is something I so much avid for. Nevertheless, from time to time I meet setbacks and frustrations in the way of learning it.

I have been an English learner for nearly 20 years. English is my major in university. What is more, I have been an English teacher for fifteen years. Every day I live with it and work with it. Every day I try to write down what I feel about everything, all my joys and cares, all my sufferings and tribulations. What a sad thing it is that I find I am still unable to make it as freely as can be!

I don’t know when I can make leaps and bounds in it and I can talk and write as naturally as possible with foreigners. I don’t think this day will come. Most probably I will be an English learner all my life.

Some declared that one won’t be able to use English perfectly unless he may go to foreign countries where English is the native language to live for some time. In this life such a prospect never looks possible to me. So I have to stay where I am now, and dream that one a miracle may come up.
