What are the causes of the turmoil?
Recently there have been riots in Tibet. Someone told me there are other unreported such turmoil in other parts of China, such as Xinjiang. I don’t know what exactly the causes for such disturbances are.
There should be no causes of such disturbances within the boundary of China. It appeared in western media that the fundamental causes are cries of the common people in those areas for independence. Would they really benefit from the so-called independence? I know from my experience that the Chinese government has been providing financial support for those minority-resident areas. When I was in university, there were a lot of students from Tibet were receiving education for free, while we had to pay all the costs by ourselves. At that time we thought it unfair. However now I know the Tibetans are still not content with such favorable treatment.
Of course most of the residents in Tibet are beneficiaries of the present national policy towards them. It is only Dalai lama, the former Buddhist leader of Tibet, who has been seeking to regain the power to rule over the territory. People from western countries may say that it is the right of the local people to determine what a life they may lead. However can a country, being plunged into wars and disruptions all day long, gain some welfare for its people? The former Yugoslavia, Soviet Union, for example, have met severe setbacks in the development of economy. Any destruction of something already existent and the construction of something new will mean a great cost of all kinds of human and natural resources. Therefore, the preservation of peace and unity in any country will benefit all residents there. Reunification, however, can do well to all the people within a country. Federal Germany and Democratic Germany, when united, have proved to be much powerful and influential in the international forum. That is the very reason why most Chinese aspire for a peaceful unity. Because of what aforesaid, why should we sabotage our national security and jeopardize the welfare of most Chinese by supporting the disturbances like what have happened in Tibet? So except for a few extremists headed by Dalai Lama, there will be seldom anyone that will give support.
Are there any powers or countries in the world who intend to take risks to cause riots within China for their own benefits? The answer may be in the affirmative. China has been developing very fast economically and its national prestige is growing. As the representative of all countries of the Third World, China has been receiving unprecedented homage from all over the world. Many countries in the world are envious of this. They allegedly regard the growth of China as a threat to their own security. So they hate it so much as to utilize whatever means to destroy, at least to put pressure on, the peaceful development of China. What is more, in order to keep its dominance over the world, some country makes every effort to avoid any country that has the prospect of becoming one of the multipolars. It is with the help of these countries that Dalai Lama can have the ability to create such atrocious turmoil.
All in all, admittedly Dalai Lama, under the instigation and support of western powers, has conspired against the Chinese government to make such disturbances. That is the very cause.
