A LETTER TO MY FRIEND

2008-01-04 16:47:03 / 天气: 晴朗 / 心情: 高兴 / 个人分类:talk with the heaven

Dear Monica,

I don't know you like it or not, but I am here writing a public letter to you, not love letter of course, hehehehehe.

Because we have different cultures there are a lot of misunderstandings that often occur when we even chat on some issues, for example on my blog "ABOUT LEARNING ENGLISH". Every advice or comment has so far been paid due attention to and high respect to by me.

I have for most of the time learned English on my own, without any guidance, unlike those students at school. Your help is like the early rain in spring, giving me much wetness while I am so thirsty.(is this metaphor meaningful to you? hahahahhahha).

I should take care to write neatly and make sense.

I am not a native speaker. Sometimes I have to resort to big words or just fetch any words that may be accessible to me to use, which may not be correct.

I admire your eloquence and expressiveness when you finish a blog for only several minutes. I can do it in Chinese too. However in English I have no courage to brag about that.

I am encouraging my students to use every word they have learned, no matter how long or short they are. I have also told them that it is a great adventure to use them.

My students, like me, have no language environment in which to practice the English they have learned. Practice makes perfect. Any mistake is a great step forward I think.

English is my major and I am living on it as an English teacher. I wish one day I may go abroad to study and try to sense what a feeling it is when I am surrounded by all native English speakers.

You said that you can read Chinese well. That is great. A lot of foreigners say that think Chinese is the most difficult language to learn in the world.

I also know some Japanese, hehhee. I like learning foreign languages for I am so much amused by them.

Thank you for your help and please continue giving me advice and comments.

Yours sincerely,

scoundrel1972

God ?

What is that for??

I am not helping much and you don't need to be so formal...

See, you treat it too seriously..actually, I find so far everyone treats my comments too seriously..

Who am I? just another blogger who mark around to show my personal opinions...

If you like the way I am writing, you read..
If you think it is shit, you ignore...

If you believe the way you are teaching your students is good, then keep it....

It is good to see you people treat English learning as a serious thing...

But I am not here to teach or learn English...I am just curious how people with different backgrounds think about the same issue...

And I have realized, long time ago...that we have different brains..

You go to read to my previous articles and you will find heaps of misunderstadnings...

I tell jokes which Kiwis may laugh for hours..but Chinese get offended...

I write sth funny but no one here is able to understand it...

Piss me off, kind of...

But hey! I understand it because you don't have the knowledge, the culture and the sense of  humor to understand Western jokes...

That's why I think Vocabulary doesn't mean super English....I have experienced all that...

I go to visit someone's blog here....he/she uses wonderful words but the whole article doesn't make sense...

In the end, I have to quit reading because it really gives me headache.

I also understand students have to pass English exams...well, I do think the education system in China sucks...everyone knows big words but no one seems to use them right...

I agree that as a teacher, you can't change the education system..and it is very important for you to help all the students pass the exams...

But shouldn't you also tell them some western culture and knowledge in your class...

When I was travelling in China, I met lots lots of Chinese who are so keen to practice English with me...

But honestly, I hate talking with them...although I have to smile and try to be friendly to them...

They talk nothing that I am interested in....

I am 26, with a brain ....hopefully...

I don;t want to answer those questions such as "How are you? "  do you like China?" " Where are you from? " "what is different between China and NZ....

I don;t mind answer once....but please not a hundred times....

Unfrtunately, most Chinese seem like they have been educated  by the same parents...and their questions and answers are all the same...

Well, I think I write too much this time...

Better stop now...anyway, hope you all the best with your teaching career...

P.S. Not native speaker.....

English people or an English speaking person...

Nothing wrong with "Native speaker" but we just don't say it in that way...

I can read Chinese but not as well as you...let you know in case you start to leave me Chinese messages.
