DURING SPRING FESTIVAL

New Roman">Today is the last day of 2007 in accordance with the lunar calendar. Outside are fireworks cracking and resounding. Inside is me sitting in front of the computer and writing my article.

All that is happening outside seems just to be irrelevant to me. I stick to my privacy and enjoy the tranquility and serenity. My heart is at ease and my mind is keeping a good composure if itself.

For a whole day I have been busy cleaning my home, which renders me so exhausted. Tomorrow all of us will be expected to greet each other according to the spectacular Chinese custom. I am reluctant to greet anyone so formally. What is the worst, we are expected to get down on our knees or kowtow in front of our relatives or any senior and respectable ones. However I have to obey the rules since I am a social prisoner.

For today and tomorrow we are not expected to say any bad words against anybody, including ourselves, which is also a strict rule expected to be abided by.

I am not in my hometown, so it can save me a lot of trouble. I needn’t kowtow. I am just feeling so much happy about that.

For a whole day my son has been playing with fireworks outside and even forgets his meals. From time to time I have to call him to be back since I am very much concerned about his safety.

Whatever, it is the beginning of a new year. I am happy to listen to the fireworks and know that they are enjoying the Spring Festival.
