A merry heart goes all the way. Complacency is the enemy of study. Note the feeling when I will be free!
  • Women's Day

    2008-03-09 13:04:44

Observed throughout the world (including in China, where it is a national holiday) in 1975 the United Nations declared March 8th to be International Women's Day.

Women's Day gives us a time to look at women's struggles and accomplishments in the past and think about the opportunities (and lack thereof) they have today and the contributions that women will make in the future.

This display highlights books on women's history and women's studies, especially in the realm of women's work inside and outside the home. It focuses on women's issues in Asia (especially China and Hong Kong), but also includes some works such as Virginia Woolf's A Room of Ones Own and Simone de Beauvoir's The Second Sex that are considered classics of 20th century Western feminism.

Celebrate Women's Day throughout the month of March by learning more about women and society.
