Love Your Life
2008-07-31 20:49:40
However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not so bad as you are. It looks poorest when you are richest. The fault-finder will find faults in paradise[ 'pærədaiz ]. Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling 'θriliŋ, glorious times, even in a poor-house. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the alms-house as brightly as from the rich man's abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live the most independent lives of any. May be they are simple great enough to receive without misgiving[ mis'giviŋ ]. Most think that they are above being supported by the town; but it often happens that they are not above supporting themselves by dishonest means. Which should be more disreputable.Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends, turn the old, return to them. Things do not change; We change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.

She ate all my bait
2008-07-28 10:10:09
The young boy protested vigorously when his mother asked him to take his little sister along fishing. "The last time she came," he objected, "I didn't catch a single fish."
"I'll talk to her," his mother said, "and I promise this time she won't make any noise."
"It wasn't the noise, Mom," the boy replied, "She ate all my bait."

Are you serious,man?(It's a skit)
2008-07-28 10:07:29
There's a man who took his wife to see the movies. That day was a Sunday and it was very crowded, everyone was queuing to buy the tickets. So he and his wife were also in the queue, sweating. Suddenly, someone just punched him from behind. He was so angry, and already so mad and with his nerves on edge. He said, "Are you serious, man?!" The man that stood behind him was an ex-world champion boxer. So he looked at him and said, "Yes, serious, so what?" The man was small and skinny. He looked back, really looked at him now, studying him, he saw his arm muscles, just bigger than his whole body put together. So, he just kind of smiled and said. "It's all right, I hate people who are not serious.
The Joy of Living-生活的乐趣
2008-07-17 12:07:09
Joy in living comes from having fine emotions, trusting them, giving them the freedom of a bird in the open. Joy in living can never be assumed as a pose, or put on from the outside as a mask. People who have this joy don not need to talk about it; they radiate it. They just live out their joy and let it splash its sunlight and glow into other lives as naturally as bird sings.
We can never get it by working for it directly. It comes, like happiness, to those who are aiming at something higher. It is a byproduct of great, simple living. The joy of living comes from what we put into living, not from what we seek to get from it.

My self-exam, my dreams!
2008-07-14 20:27:30
As we know, many people enter for the self-exam every year. Tomorrow is the day for the person who would like to join the self-exam. Well, I really pay attention to introductions of self-exam these days. In fact, I was waiting for the day for several months. Yeah, tomorrow is a special day for me.
I will go to cross my road of self-exam. Whatever the case may be, I have to hold out and never surrender, never! In order to realize my dreams, I should have studied much harder; in order to my parents will see better days, I should have earned money more and more. Surely, I admit that success in making money is not always a good criterion of success in life. But my dear friend, could you keep your happy days without money? I think everyone will say, “No”. we couldn’t enjoy our inner life if we are starving.
I have worked in this job for nearly one year. It seems the prospect in my present job is not very good. I wanted to quit this job, but I couldn’t! To look for another job is not too easy for me. What’s more, my work is very leisure, and then I have enough time to study for my self-exam. All in all, I won’t be leaving yet awhile.
Hope I can pass it smoothly. The god is blessing me! I thought there is nothing that can beat me down. I have the energy! I have the strength! I have the belief! Nothing is impossible! Thus, I can see the sunshine ahead of my dreams.

The Orange on Christmas Day
2008-07-14 15:36:34
In the very early 1800's, a young boy about 14 years old named John lived in an orphanage(孤儿院)in Old England along with several other children. Orphanages were dreaded(悲惨的). Orphan meant unwanted and unloved. The orphanage was administered(管理)by a master and his wife who were results of meager backgrounds themselves and were short on love but high on discipline(纪律). No childlike play, no expression of compassion(怜悯), no understanding.Every day of the year was spent working. They worked in gardens, cleaned, sewed, and cooked sometimes for wealthy children. They were up at dawn and worked until dark and usually received only one meal a day. However, they were very grateful because they were taught to be hard workers. John had absolutely(绝对地)nothing to call his own. None of the children did.
Christmas was the one day of the year when the children did not work and received a gift. A gift for each child - something to call their own. This special gift was an orange. John had been in the orphanage long enough to look forward with delight and anticipation(预料)of this special day of Christmas and to the orange he would receive. In Old England, and to John and his orphan companions(同伴), an orange was a rare and special gift. It had an unusual aroma(芳香)of something they smelled only at Christmas. The children prized it so much that they kept it for several days, weeks, and even months - protecting it, smelling it, touching it and loving it. Usually they tried to savor(闻)and preserve it for so long that it often rotted before they ever peeled(剥)it to enjoy the sweet juice.
Many thought were expressed this year as Christmas time approached(临近). The children would say, "I will keep mine the longest." They always talked about how big their last orange was and how long they had kept it.
John usually slept with his next to his pillow(枕头). He would put it right by his nose and smell of its goodness, holding it tenderly and carefully as not to bruise(擦伤)it. He would dream of children all over the world smelling the sweet aroma of oranges. It gave him security(安全)and a sense of well being, hope and dreams of a future filled with good food and a life different from this meager existence.
This year John was overjoyed by the Christmas season. He was becoming a man. He knew he was becoming stronger and soon he would be old enough to leave. He was excited by this anticipation and excited about Christmas. He would save his orange until his birthday in July. If he preserved(保存)it very carefully, kept it cool and did not drop it, he might be able to eat it on his birthday.
Christmas day finally came. The children were so excited as they entered the big dining hall. John could smell the unusual aroma of meat. In his excitement and because of his oversized(超大的)feet, he tripped(绊倒), causing a disturbance(麻烦). Immediately the master roared(吼道), "John, leave the hall and there will be no orange for you this year." John's heart broke violently(强烈地)wide open. He began to cry. He turned and went swiftly back to the cold room and his corner so the small children would not see his anguish(痛苦).
Then he heard the door open and each of the children entered. Little Elizabeth with her hair falling over her shoulders, a smile on her face, and tears in her eyes held out a piece of rag to John. "Here John," she said, "this is for you." John was touched by her youth and innocence(清纯)as he reached for the bulge(突出部分)in her hand. As he lifted back the edges of the rag he saw a big juicy orange all peeled and quartered. . . and then he realized what they had done. Each had sacrificed(献出)their own orange by sharing a quarter and had created a big, beautiful orange for John.
John never forgot the sharing(分享), love and personal sacrifice his friends had shown him that Christmas day. John's beginning was a meager existence, however, his growth to manhood was rewarded by wealth and success.
In memory of that day every year he would send oranges all over the world to children everywhere. His desire was that no child would ever spend Christmas without a special Christmas fruit!

2008-07-11 21:17:31
1.You're in the pink! 当然不错,可如果你说“You're in the pink!”
2.He is bouncy:“他精力充沛”美国人通常说:“He is bouncy.”,而不说“He is energetic”,牢记一些日常对话中的句式是你生活中一把必备的钥匙。如:久仰,“I get mind of you”比“I heard a lot about you.”
3.Did you get lost:有人开会迟到了,你若对他说“You are late.”,听起来像是废话。若说“Did you get lost?”,则更能让他感到歉疚,可千万别说成“Get lost!”,那可是让人滚蛋的意思。
4.Do you have the time?:别人征求你的意见,问能否开窗户等,你要是说“You can do that.”就有点土了,用一句“Do you have the time?” 实际上,问他人的姓名,地址都可以这么用:“May I have your name?”要比“What’s your name?”
5.I would rather not say:别人问你不愿公开的问题,切勿用“It’s my secret, don’t ask such a personal question.” 你可以说“I would rather not say.”(还是别说了吧)。
6.It’s on the tip of my tongue:有时候,你想说什么,可是想不起来,你可以说“Well…”、“Let me see.”、“Just a moment.”或“It’s on the tip of my tongue.”
7. While I remember…:交谈时,你可能会转换话题,不要只说“By the way”,实际上,“To change the subject”、“Before I forget”、“While I remember”、“Mind you”都是既地道又受欢迎的表达。
用“I got it.”就顺耳得多,要是不懂就说“I’m not clear about it.”。不过如果你会说“It’s past my understanding.”
9. The meeting was scheduled for two hours, but it is not over yet.
10. Would you care to see it/sit down for a while?
11. I’m supposed to go on a diet/get a raise.
12. I’m afraid that it’s not going to work out.
13. Do you mind if I take tomorrow off?
14. It really depends on who is in charge. -
Steps Toward Love
2008-07-11 20:24:39
Is your life ruled by love or by fear? Love and fear are opposite emotional attitudes that shape our life in very different ways. The psychoanalyst John McMurray describes the difference like this:
"The fear-determined have no sun in themselves and go about putting out the sun in other people. The love-determined have life in them, abundant life. They are the people who are really alive, of whom it can be said that they possess eternal life as a well within them perpetually."
Life is a lot more beautiful and vivid if it is determined by love and not by fear. I’m sure you can imagine that someone determined completely by love would be a kind of saint. In contrast, most of us ordinary human beings are determined by both forces, love and fear. However, in my experience, even a tiny shift towards love—and away from fear—can bring a lot more Happiness.
Here are 7 tips that you can move towards love and away from fear.
1. Cultivate gratitude
Gratitude makes us feel happier. If you remember to be grateful for the blessings of your life, you start to feel more connected to yourself and others. When you let go of niggles and embrace gratitude instead, love springs up.
2. Reality-test your fear
Sometimes fear can be like a cloud that keeps out the sunlight. Then everything feels huge and oppressive. A simple way to deal with fear is to test its reality. Write down three things that you are afraid of. Then look at each point and ask yourself, “Is this fear really grounded in reality?” I know that when I do this, I often find that my fears are unfounded. It’s like living in a shadow-land, peering into the future and expecting bad things to happen.
3. Take action
Fear is often born out of inaction. For example, if you get a sense that your health is impaired, but you don't check it out with a doctor, you may start to imagine that you are heading for a major health crisis. (I could fill a whole notebook with illnesses I once thought I had - but never actually got!) Once you've been to a doctor and reviewed the problems, the steps towards renewed health may seem much more manageable.
Taking action is the best antidote to fear. Once you start to address the issues one by one, fears shrink and may even disappear.
4. Cultivate friendships
Good friends are important because they teach us to love. It's often much easier to love a good friend than it is to love and forgive our partner. Friends are lasting companions in life. It’s good to talk with them when we feel afraid. They can give us a fresh perspective on what is troubling us.
5. Be generous
In the quote above, John McMurray points out that fear-determined people have no sun in themselves and "go about putting out the sun in other people." Fear makes us narrow-minded and we tend to put down others. Here is how I deal with that: when I notice I'm getting negative, I put a small pebble into one of my pockets. Each time I catch myself using a put-down, I quietly shift the pebble into the other pocket and say to myself kindly, "Well, maybe I can say that differently next time."
6. Practise kindness
Kindness is 'love-in-action'. It’s good to make a habit of it. The trick is to notice what people need. Here is an example: yesterday I was talking to a stall-holder at a farmers' market who fashions wooden spoons. He saw that I was carrying a bag of luscious, fresh corncobs. He said, "Oh, they look nice!" Then he sighed, "Oh well, by the time I've finished selling at my stand they’ll have all gone." I offered to get some for him. It was a small action but it made us both feel good. Try and spot one occasion each day when you can be of help.
7. Open your awareness
Fear tends to make us focus inwards. A way out of is to do the opposite and open your awareness to include everything around you. For example, if you notice anxious thoughts, open you mind and listen to sounds around you. Maybe you can hear birdsong, or traffic noise, or children playing. This has an instant calming effect and fear wanes.
If you follow these 7 tips, you'll move towards more love and less fear in your life. Soon you will notice an upsurge of Happiness and contentment, instead of fear and anxiety.
What is your experience of living with love or with fear? Maybe you could share your special way of inviting love into your life and saying "good-bye" to fear? -
2008-07-11 20:05:41
In order to experience everlasting love in life, you ought to first figure out what is missing in your life and then fill in the gaps. People fall in and out of love because they expect their lovers to be everything to them and do everything for them. They then become dissatisfied when the partner fails to meet all their requirements. If you have a dream of achieving everlasting love you better create your very own life crowned by hobbies, interests and beneficial passions. This makes you a full lover when you enjoy a complete, interesting life on your own. Create a world of your own. On your to-do-list add forgiveness. It is always healthy to forgive while you can, disappointments and sadness is a part of life.
Some people find it hard to forgive their partners especially if they happened to catch them cheating on them. Seek professional help from a marriage and relationship counselor. This is an important move towards search for everlasting love. Most buried resentments are the cause to failed marriages and broken relationships. At one time they resurface and blow the present things out of proportion. To find a smooth sail in your love life you have to learn to forgive and move on with a clean slate. Accept changes when they arrive instead of fighting the reality. In life change is inevitable. At one time you will be loved, dumped, married, you will have children, become sick and die. You should acknowledge the happenings in life and move through them strongly. No matter how settled you might be it is good to know that things can change in an instant.
Always accept the unexpected. Always find Happiness in what you have and be grateful to own what you have. It is a great secret to everlasting love. Despite the greatest fear and uncertainties of the unknown, when the inevitable things happen you will look back on the good old times and wish that you had been more grateful when things were more colorful. To enjoy your love life you should give thanks every moment and learn to appreciate the small problems we experience because unknown to us they can get worse and some time they probably will. To experience how it feels to have everlasting love, create time for each other as lovers. Many people who are unhappy keep on postponing time to be together. People get caught up in the many and demanding daily activities and forget to get time to live for today.
It happens to me and you. There will always be more laundry, more house chores and more errands to be carried out. It is a routine where we retire to bed when we are very exhausted late at night only to awake and follow the same routine again the next day. To live life to the fullest stop at some point and take time for yourself and for each other too. Today might be the only gift you have in life so live like there is no tomorrow. The precious moments we reckon in life are achieved by creating time for them against the much pressure of work. Create such short and fleeting moments everyday to enjoy everlasting love. -

My Love
2008-07-10 17:04:23
My love is like an ocean
It goes down so deep
My love is like a rose
Whose beauty you want to keep.My love is like a river
That will never end
My love is like a dove
With a beautiful message to send.My love is like a song
That goes on and on forever
My love is like a prisoner
It's to you that I surrender. -
The Gift of Life
2008-07-10 16:10:00
On the very first day, God created the cow. He said to the cow, “Today I have created you! As a cow, you must go to the field with the farmer all day long. You will work all day under the sun! I will give you a life span of 50 years.”The cow objected, “What? This kind of a tough life you want me to live for 50 years? Let me have 20 years, and the 30 years I’ll give back to you.” So God agreed.
On the second day, God created the dog. God said to the dog, “What you are supposed to do is to sit all day by the door of your house. Any people that come in, you will have to bark at them! I’ll give you a life span of 20 years.”
The dog objected, “What? All day long to sit by the door? No way! I’ll give you back my other 10 years of life!” So God agreed.
On the third day, God created the monkey. He said to the monkey, “Monkeys have to entertain people. You’ve got to make them laugh and do monkey tricks. I’ll give you 20 years life span.”
The monkey objected. “What? Make them laugh? Do monkey faces and tricks? Ten years will do, and the other 10 years I’ll give you back.” So God agreed.
On the fourth day, God created man and said to him, “Your job is to sleep, eat, and play. You will enjoy very much in your life. All you need to do is to enjoy and do nothing. This kind of life, I’ll give you a 20 year life span.”
The man objected. “What? Such a good life! Eat, play, sleep, do nothing? Enjoy the best and you expect me to live only for 20 years? No way, man! Why don’t we make a deal? Since the cow gave you back 30 years, and the dog gave you back 10 years and the monkey gave you back 10 years, I will take them from you! That makes my life span 70 years, right?” So God agreed.
And that's why...
In our first 20 years, we eat, sleep, play, enjoy the best and do nothing much. For the next 30 years, we work all day long, suffer and get to support the family. For the next 10 years, we entertain our grandchildren by making monkey faces and monkey tricks. And for the last 10 years, we stay at home, sit by the front door and bark at people!

Price Of A Miracle
2008-07-10 15:11:39
Tess was a precocious eight-year-old girl when she heard her Mom and Dad talking about her little brother, Andrew. All she knew was that he was very sick and they were completely out of money. They were moving to an apartment complex next month because Daddy didn’t have the money for the doctor’s bills and our house.Only a very costly surgery could save him now and it was looking like there was no-one to loan them the money. She heard Daddy say to her tearful Mother with whispered desperation, “Only a miracle can save him now.”
Tess went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jelly jar from its hiding place in the closet. She poured all the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Three times, even. The total had to be exactly perfect. No chance here for mistakes.
Carefully placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap, she slipped out the back door and made her way 6 blocks to Rexall’s Drug Store with the big red Indian Chief sign above the door.
She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention but he was too busy at this moment. Tess twisted her feet to make a noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound she could muster.
No good. Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it! “And what do you want?” the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice. “I’m talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven’t seen in ages, “he said without waiting for a reply to his question.”
“Well, I want to talk to you about my brother,” Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone. “He’s really, really sick... and I want to buy a miracle.”
“I beg your pardon?” said the pharmacist. “His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?”
“We don’t sell miracles here, little girl. I’m sorry but I can’t help you,” the pharmacist said, softening a little. “Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn’t enough, I will get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs.”
The pharmacist’s brother was a well-dressed man. He stooped down and asked the little girl, “What kind of a miracle does your brother need?” “I don’t know,” Tess replied with her eyes welling up.
“I just know he’s really sick and Mommy says he needs an operation. But my Daddy can’t pay for it, so I want to use my money.”
“How much do you have?” asked the man from Chicago.
“One dollar and eleven cents,” Tess answered barely audibly. “And it’s all the money I have, but I can get some more if I need to.”
“Well, what a coincidence,” smiled the man. “A dollar and eleven cents — the exact price of a miracle for little brothers. “He took her money in one hand and with the other hand he grasped her mitten and said “Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let’s see if I have the kind of miracle you need.”
That well-dressed man was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon, specializing in neurosurgery. The operation was completed without charge and it wasn’t long until Andrew was home again and doing well. Mom and Dad were happily talking about the chain of events that had led them to this place.
“That surgery,” her Mom whispered, “was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost?” Tess smiled. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost... one dollar and eleven cents ... plus the faith of a little child.

Prayer for my mother
2008-07-10 14:50:41
Dear God,
Now that I am no longer young, I have friends whose mothers have passed away. I have heard these sons and daughters say they never fully appreciated their mothers until it was too late to tell them.
I am blessed with the dear mother who is still alive. I appreciate her more each day. My mother does not change, but I do. As I grow older and wiser, I realize what an extraordinary person she is. How sad that I am unable to speak these words in her presence, but they flow easily from my pen.
How does a daughter begin to thank her mother for life itself? For the love, patience and just plain hard work that go into raising a child? For running after a toddler, for understanding a moody teenager, for tolerating a college student who knows everything? For waiting for the day when a daughter realizes her mother really is?
How does a grown woman thank for a mother for continuing to be a mother? For being ready with advice (when asked) or remaining silent when it is most appreciated? For not saying: “I told you so”, when she could have uttered these words dozens of times? For being essentially herself—loving, thoughtful, patient, and forgiving?
I don’t know how, dear God, except to bless her as richly as she deserves and to help me live up to the example she has set. I pray that I will look as good in the eyes of my children as my mother looks in mine.

Relish the moment
2008-07-08 21:16:21
Tucked away in our subconscious is an idyllic vision. We see ourselves on a long trip that spans the continent. We are traveling by train. Out the windows, we drink in the passing scene of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at a crossing, of cattle grazing on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, of row upon row of corn and wheat, of flatlands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hillsides, of city skylines and village halls.
But uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day at a certain hour, we will pull into the station. Bands will be playing and flags waving. Once we get there, so many wonderful dreams will come true and the pieces of our lives will fit together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, damning the minutes for loitering --waiting, waiting, waiting for the station.
"When we reach the station, that will be it! "we cry. "When I'm 18. ""When I buy a new 450SL Mercedes Benz! ""When I put the last kid through college. ""When I have paid off the mortgage!""When I get a promotion.""When I reach the age of retirement, I shall live happily ever after! "
Sooner or later, we must realize there is no station, no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly outdistances us.
"Relish the moment "is a good motto, especially when coupled with Psalm 118:24:"This is the day which the Lord hath made;we will rejoice and be glad in it. "It isn't the burdens of today that drive men mad. It is the regrets over yesterday and the fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today.
So stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. In stead, climb more mountains, eat more ice cream, go barefoot more often, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more, cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. The station will come soon enough.

Northern Star
2008-07-07 15:22:00
They tried to catch a falling star
Thinking that she had gone too far
She did but kept it hidden well
Until she cracked and then she fell
If all the history is true
She’s gonna end up just like you
You made it to the other side
But tell me who will be my guide?
They build you up so they can tear you down
Trust the ocean
Who is next?
Who’s gonna steal your crown?
You’ll see
I have learned my lesson well
The truth is out there I can tell
Don’t look back and don’t give it to their lies and goodbye
Northern star
Fulfil a longing in your heart
And we will never be apart
And if they dare to question you
Just tell them that our love is true
They buy your dreams so they can sell you soul
Is it any wonder we’ve lost control?
Feelings come
Feelings go
I have learned my lesson well
The truth is out there I can tell
Don’t look back and don’t succumb to their lies and goodbye
Live your life without regret
Don’t be someone who they forget
When you’re lost reach out of me
And you’ll see
She’s not far
Northern star
I have learned my lesson well
The truth is out there I can tell
Don’t look back and don’t succumb to their lies and goodbye
Live your life without regret
Don’t be someone who they forget
When you’re lost reach out for me
And you’ll see
She’s not far

Wednesdays are most depressing day of the week
2008-07-05 14:59:07
If you struggled to get up for work on Wednesdays, there could be a good reason – it is the day our mood reaches its lowest point.
Psychologists have found that, on average, people's moods remain about the same on each day throughout the week.
Monday has traditionally been thought of as the most depressing day of the week but according to psychologists, midweek gives more cause for concern in reality.
Wednesday represented the lowest point in the week as people were furthest away from the weekend that has either just gone or is coming up and often feel bogged down with work.
To start their research, the University of Sydney scientists asked around 200 people what they thought their mood would be on each day of the week.
Most said their worst moods were on Monday mornings and evenings but they became increasingly cheerful as the week wore on, with their best moods falling on Friday and Saturday mornings and evenings.
When asked why they believed that Friday and Saturday were best, respondents said they saw them as less-structured days when they could choose how to spend their time.
The psychologists then asked a further 350 people how they felt each day.
They found that, on average, people's moods remained about the same on each day throughout the week.
Mondays were not as depressing as they had feared and Fridays and Saturdays were not as exciting as predicted.
Professor Charles Areni, who led the study, said the day-of-the-week stereotypes stem from a cultural belief that people are generally happier when they are free to choose their activities compared to when they are engaged in paid work.
In reality, he said, weekends do not often see moods soar because they are frequently dominated by productive activities that may require large amounts of energy and begin to feel like work.
"Day-of-the-week stereotypes like Monday morning blues and Thank God It's Friday are largely illusions," he said.
