the Dragon Boat Festivel /  the Double five Day

It is a traditional Chiness fistivel, falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of Chinese (or lunar)calendar.

1、粽子

Zongzi/ rice dumpling

Pyramid-shaped stuffed dumpling made of glutinous rice and wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. Tt's a traditional food for the festivel just like the cakes on birthday or turkeys during Christmas.

the origin of the festivel

It is the day to commemorate QuYuan, a minister and patriot poet of he Chu kinddom during the Warring States period(475-221BC).Qu drawned himself in the Miluo river in what is now in Hunan province, when his homeland was coguered by Qin in 278BC.People rushed to save him but they failed to fine him. To prevent his body eaten by fish, people banged boats to scare the fish away and  throwed Zongzi into the river to  distract the fish. This practices evolved into a ritual set on the fifth day of the fifth month of the the traditional Chinese calendar, when people hold dragon boat race and eat Zongzi.
