       A boy and his father were visiting a mall. They were amused by almost everything they saw, but especially two shiny,silver walls in the hotel lobby that could move apart and back together again.

       The boy asked his father, "What is this, father?"

       The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, "Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don't know what it is."

       While the boy and his father were watching wide-eyed, an older lady, limping slightly with a cane, slowly walked up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened and the lady walked between them and into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched, small circles of light with numbers above the wall light up. They continued to watch the circles light up on the reverse direction. The walls opened again and a beautiful 24-year-old woman stepped out. The father said to his son, " Go to get your mother."

• Who Is Uncle Sam?

       "Uncle Sam", of course, stands for the United States. It is the nickname of the country . It is hard to believe that this nickname arose quite by accident and there was a man called "Uncle Sam" . However,not many people have ever heard of such a man. Not even most young Americans.

        The man was called Uncle Sam Wilson. He was born in Arlington, Massachusetts,Spetember 13, 1776. At the age of 14 Sam joined the American Revolutionary War, and served in the army under George Washington until the end of the war. He then moved to Troy, New York States, and began a meatpacking business. In the year of 1812, war broke out between the United States and Great Britain. On October 2 that year, a group of visitors came to Sam's meatpacking plant. Among them was Governor Daniel Tompkings of New York State. He noticed the capitalized letters EAUS on the packages of meat and asked what they stood for. A workman replied that EA stood for Elbert Anderson, the businessman for whom Sam was working. And he added jokingly that US (actually it was the short form for United States) stood for Uncle Sam Wilson.

        In May 1813, this story appeared in a newspaper published in New York. Since Uncle Sam was an example of a hard-working man and a lover of America, the idea of "Uncle Sam" as the name for this kind of man became well-known rapidly.

        By the end of the war of 1812, "Uncle Sam" had come to symbolize the character of the nation and the government. In 1961 the US Congress made a decision that "Uncle Sam" is the America's national symbol.

• A Forever Friend

  "A friend walk in when the rest of the world walks out."

  Sometimes in life,
  有时候在生活中，
  
  You find a special friend;
  你会找到一个特别的朋友;
  
  Someone who changes your life just by being part of it.
  他只是你生活中的一部分内容，却能改变你整个的生活。
  
  Someone who makes you laugh until you can't stop;
  他会把你逗得开怀大笑；
  
  Someone who makes you believe that there really is good in the world.
  他会让你相信人间有真情。
